Omring has over a century of experience in caregiving and specialized nursing in West Friesland, the northern tip of Holland, and on Texel. From treatment to rehabilitation, and from home care to one of their 29 residential care locations. Their ambition? To become the most sustainable healthcare organization in the Netherlands.
“We are aware of the significant environmental impact from the healthcare sector,” says Maarten van Dijk, Facility Advisor at Omring. “We aim to make a positive contribution and set an example for other healthcare organizations.” They began by critically examining what Omring actually procures, and they were particularly shocked by the amount of packaging materials.
Therefore, Omring participated in the CIRCO Track ‘Packaged with Care’ at the CIRCO Hub North Holland. Here, they collaborated with chain partners on a case to reduce the volume of (healthcare) packaging. Subsequently, they initiated a pilot program with a dosing system for cleaning products. This results in a significant reduction in packaging material, lower chemical usage, fewer transport movements, and cost savings.
“We want a lot, but we have learned that you have to start small and see what works and what doesn’t.” – Maarten van Dijk
