Matthew Mak is the founder of Earth Production and Earth Event Consulting. He brings over 20 years of experience in event management and a passion for climate action. He prioritises sustainability in every aspect of events, from planning and design to execution, communication, and evaluation.
As a sustainable entrepreneur and change-maker based in Hong Kong, Matthew has extensive knowledge and experience in promoting a sustainable approach to the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. Matthew is well-recognised in the global sustainable event professionals community and actively participates in advocating for the transformation of the event industry.
In 2024, Matthew joined the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to research ESG management within the MICE sector in Hong Kong. The research findings resulted in the authoring of the ‘Hong Kong MICE Sustainability Practical Guidebook’. This book ensures that practical sustainability strategies are grounded in research and relevant to the industry while also preparing himself for an academic career.
Beyond professional and academic pursuits, Matthew is committed to knowledge sharing. He teaches sustainable event management regenerative business tourism and circular event design for practising professionals and students thereby nurturing emerging talent with a sustainability mindset in the early stages of their careers in the event industry.
