Sjoerd Hoekstra is the co-founder of Three Dogs Retail Design, a design consultancy specialising in retail interiors; and Design For Culture, a design consultancy specialising in cultural projects.
In the past decade Sjoerd has developed unique experience designing, building and manufacturing projects and objects that follow circularity and zero waste design principles for clients such as Swire, Hongkong Land and the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office.
Sjoerd curated and designed the exhibition ‘Designing Circularity’, presented at the DX Design Hub in 2025. The exhibition showcases how design for the circular economy changes how we make and use the built environment, fashion apparel and everyday goods.
Sjoerd graduated from the Design Academy in The Netherlands and holds a master’s degree in architectural conservation from the University of Hong Kong. He is an adjunct associate professor at the faculty of Architecture, the University of Hong Kong where he teaches at the Design+ programme.
Sjoerd is a member of Docomomo, ICOMOS and HKICON. He is co-founder and curator of the Friends of the 30 Houses Neighborhood, a society concerned with the conservation of Central Hong Kong’s oldest remaining residential neighborhood.
